We'd love to share our Certified Angus Beef story with you. As of July 2015, Festival Foods was using the exact beef program that our competitor is currently using. It was a good program, but we wanted something better so we began testing several beef programs and found the beef that we call Certified Angus Beef to be more tender and flavorful. In fact there was an independent study conducted by Colorado State University in 2013 that proved our product to be much more tender and flavorful. With the fact that it is largely produced in Wisconsin, it made it a very easy choice: change to better product produced in Wisconsin!
Our Certified Angus Beef is USDA choice graded and in addition, they sort the cattle so that we get the “upper two-thirds” of the choice grade.
The USDA has 3 classifications within the choice grade and that is based on marbling. There is small, modest and moderate marbling. Moderate and modest having the most, and that’s what we have in Certified Angus Beef. Marbling greatly affects the flavor and tenderness of the beef.
Another great benefit of having the WI produced product is that we know where our beef comes from. Our meat director, Mike, visits the plant regularly. It's just 15 minutes from our office.
As it regards to pricing, we did not raise one single beef price due to using this new product. In fact, we have lowered several prices. Looking at our ad features, we are running much cheaper prices now as compared to last summer (up to 25% cheaper and more).
