We have looked into guests using their own containers, but it is not possible at this time because of regulatory constrictions. The State of Wisconsin says that we as a retailer would be held responsible for the correct determination of net weight even if a guest made an error. If we had a scale set up near the salad bar or bulk section for a guest to tare out their container themselves and they did it incorrectly and we actually overcharged the guest, we would still be held liable for this even though we didn’t physically decide the tare. As you can imagine, this leaves a lot of room for error that we just simply cannot take on.
